Jacqueline Gowe, owner of Catering to Kids grew up in an Italian-American family, and spent 10 years in France and Italy. Living in European or “slow food” cultures has shaped the way Jacqueline relates to food and family meals.
“I’ve always loved shopping for food, planning, preparing and enjoying home-cooked meals with friends and family. Mealtime in my family has always been a celebration."
I realized how much my Italian heritage has influenced the habits and customs of my family when I first went to Italy to study Italian language, literature and culture. Now I am very conscious of passing the same culture to my own children.”
As a mother of three young children, Jacqueline knows that steering children towards a healthy palate is difficult when they are bombarded with advertisements for super-sized food that is loaded with chemicals, colorants and additives. It became clear to Jacqueline, as her children reached school age that there is a need for healthy choices in food services for children and their busy families. She started thinking about an organic lunch program for schools while witnessing the dilemma facing many families who want their children to have nutritious meals at school. Jacqueline’s love for cooking, her convictions about the relationship between food, lifestyle and health and her international experience have shaped the business -Catering to Kids- where children’s health and well-being are first and foremost on the agenda.
